I Cannot Promise

I Cannot Promise

I won't text you
I wont wish you happy holidays
I won't ask how your day is going
or try to make plans

I won't look for you in a crowd
I won't ask people about you
I won't wear clothes I know you like
or sleep in my half of our matching t-shirts

But I cannot promise that I won't think of you

I can't promise that I won't think of you when I'm getting ready to go to a place I know you'll be
I can't promise that I won't think of you every time a love song plays on the radio
I can't promise that I will stop seeing your name everywhere I look
I can't promise that you won't appear in my dreams every time I sleep
I can't promise that a small part of me won't get excited when I know I'm going to see you

And when I do see you, and our eyes meet, I cannot promise that I don't still care.
