The day when India woke up to freedom,
It was a day of world peace; celebration,
A country got rid of her foreign bondage,
Became a sovereign nation of multi-culture,

The triumph of numerous martyred souls,
It was a day of fulfillment, excitement,
it was the day of a new beginning of an era,
It was birth of a great nation of love and unity.

On the stroke of midnight, a country came to life
Again as the British handed over the rule of India
To the sacrificed Indians without a drop of blood
The long and difficult struggle had borne fruit at last
