We all walk on common ground
Rolling thunder, hear that sound
The sky is full of stars tonight
There up so high, they shine so bright

Your voice it echo's right through my night
My heart, my chest, it goes so tight
For in my mind, there's you and i
And the love i feel, no one can deny

But through the clouds, here comes the rain
Like hot wet tears, wash away my pain
The wind it howls right through my heart
The storm it passes, and takes my past

You were my strength, when things were bad
And all the times, i made you mad
I had an opinion, and yes we clashed
But you would say, don't talk such trash

And then at christmas, we'd sit and laugh
And talk about things, from our past
Like when we were kids, we'd yell and say
Awww come on dad, lets go play

And when i was older, i'd cry on your shoulder
When my heart was broken, your door was open
The chats we had, i will never forget
Your words of wisdom, you have my respect

But the day you go, deep from my soul
Is the day i'll cry, and get no reply
Cause god has spoken, and said it's time
For you to leave us, to say goodbye

But you are my dad, and i love you so
And even though you had to go
Your spirit i know, is always here
And the memories i have, i hold so dear

As time goes by, the pain will ease
And the wind blows strong through the trees
My thoughts of you, will be fresh and strong
Cause your spirit it lives on, in the faces of your grandsons
