Poem -

I SHALL NOT BE MOVED

I SHALL NOT BE MOVED

THE CLOUDS GATHERED TOGETHER
AND DARKNESS SUBDUED THE LIGHT
THE BRIGHTNESS THAT ONCE GUIDED MY LIFE
VANISHED BEFORE MY EYES.

THE TREES WERE UPROOTED BY THE WIND,
THE WIRES ON THE POLES BEGAN TO SING,
THE SOUND OF THUNDER
FROM THE HEAVENS ROARED,
AND LIGHTENING IN ALL ITS MAJESTY
MADE ITS PRESENCE KNOWN.

HELTER SKELTER
WERE THE FEELINGS OF THE HEART,
EVERYONE RUNNING FOR SHELTER
FROM THE CHAOS THAT HAD STARTED.

BUT IN HIS CONFIDENCE I TOOK MY STAND,
KNOWING THAT NOTHING CAN REMOVE ME
FROM GOD’S MIGHTY HAND.

THE STORM CAME LIKE AN ANGRY FOE
TEARING AWAY ROOFS, AND PEALING OFF DOORS.

BUT WHEN IT WAS ALL OVER
AND THE SUN SHOWED ITS FACE,
BY HIS POWER, I WAS STILL STANDING,
UNSCARRED, AND IN MY RIGHTFUL PLACE.

WILFORD BARKER.
