I TAUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS

Unable to sleep as the morning comes
those cruel words spoken beat like a drum
it echoes through the halls of my mind
disrupting my thoughts of space and time.
Your demeaning words cut through me like a knife
Leaving me bruised and wounded in life
I never expected such a venomous sting
coming from my bosom buddy and trusted friend.
But I stand firm, resilient, and true
knowing that these words are not of me but of you
They may pierce and wound me for a while
But in the end, they are just words,
That cannot darken my skies.
So I rise above the venom's fray
For my soul's anchored, come what may
And I shall soar above it all, empowered and free,
for the piercing of your cruel words
will never define me.

'Sticks and stones will break my bones but names can never harm me'
even as a child I knew there was something wrong with that rhyme.Â
There is nothing as powerful as the words we use to stab others. Great write x
I totally agree Marion.
I have been a victim many times.
Now I allow wisdom to be my guide.
Like I’ve said before, “Experience has taught me.”
Thank you so much for the revisit.
Peace!
