I'm a Funky Man
I’m a Funky Man
Roll out the carpet ,
Here comes our Prince
The day he died ,we all cried
A Funky Man Alone, without a plan
You gave us your heart and soul
And you never showed us,
How it took its toll
You knew the end was near,
Never showing one ounce of fear
A genius in all you did
Yet so lonesome even as a kid.
And like passions in the soul
Swelling into torrents as they roll
You swallowed your last pill...
With no idea it would kill
It wasn't much later...
Found in the elevator
You took that last breath..
And it was certain death
I asked the heaven and stars
Please don't take my love...
The answer was silence ...
Silence from the angels above!

good post, Dance, Prince was one of my favorite singers, loads of talent....to be honest, I was upset by the way he died; seems so 'pointless' like he was chasing after something he could never catch (metaphorically) seems that 'fame' 'fortune' and all that goes with it, can still leave you 'wanting'....like the 'idea' to write about Prince; 'voted' with my heart, cheers poet....I've read some outstanding poetry on this site today....o yes, welcome, I'll be looking for your work, stay encouraged!
In 1984, when I was 18, I thought about the song "Party like its 1999", 15 years is a long time away. It is now 2017 and I am 51, 18 years after 1999 and 33 years after Prince's song came out.....time flies.
btw - it is better to be funky than to smell funky.
Lovely poem about Prince.....cheers. JCG
