Imprisoned by the Crown

Letter to Mother Under Covid Lockdown

I know you are alone
In a hospital
Among strangers
And just wish to be home

I know you don't want to talk
Afraid you will be exposed
For your deteriorating mind
As words fail and memories mash

I guess you must be angry
A sense of neglect
Frustrated that you seem cast aside
No longer needed and valued

I want you to imagine me
Sitting by your side
My hand between your shoulder blades
Holding up your spine
Sending waves of love

Imagine my kisses on your cheek
And on your forehead
I adore you so much
I would be right there if I could

Your voice has upheld my spine
I recall your words of wisdom
And your zealous outreach
of unconditional love

You are frail and weak in body
You are faltering in thought
But your soul will ever be a tower of strength
And your heart an ark of gold

Your are a dove and a lamb
An angel and a best friend
I am so blessed to journey with you here
And wish it would never end
