Poem -
In Blood.
It was for our benefit they gave their all
So towers of freedom or justice shall not fall
Striding on to fields consumed by hells fire
Raising banners of righteousness even higher !
Facing down the cruel barbarity of an enemy
Aspiring to destroy forever all love of liberty.

These mighty warriors accepting of their fate
Knew their shoulders bore a colossal weight.
So many would be sacrificed for the future
But they stoutly defended all that we treasure.
Today we remember what they did for everyone
Grateful they wrote in blood what was to come.

Hello Richard...
I have talked to many different service people...
All different ranks and...
PTSD is rampant...
There's not much for them once there job is done...
The nightmares never go away...
Thoughts of suicide is high on the list...
They feel guilty for what they did...
Then they feel such major guilt for trying to protect a country that they feel has turned their back...
Then they have other guilt on top of that because they don't think they will ever be forgiven by God...
And...
When I can make them smile and laugh...
And they tell me...

I appreciate beyond any words what the armed forces have done for us in the past and what they continue to do. They have made and will always make sure our way of life, with its freedoms, exists. Bless all those who have served, are serving and will serve to protect us.
We should treat our servicemen and women with respect.

Hey Sir Waters!!........I grew up in a military family....... there aren't words for how much I respect my father for two tours in Vietnam and one in a Mash unit in Korea.......... but what's so cool for me is that my mothers home is only a 10 minute drive from the Iwo Jima Memorial....... which is in your picture......... there's a huge story behind that picture itself........ can't tell you how much I LOVE this write......... hugs-n-kisses........T xo
I have seen the movie " Flags Of Our Fathers" directed by Clint Eastwood so know some of the background to the photograph. It is a magnificent symbolization of what I aimed to convey in this write because of the sacrifices made to take that island and mountain. This bloody battle and countless others forged the future and our world.
