The Ironies of Life

We live to die and learn to hate

We force smiles and hugs

Troubles come and we innovate

You want what you can’t have

Regrets push us to the past

Like LeBron to the Cavs

Freedom of choice commandeers our souls

Selfishness takes over the wicked

Attempting to achieve their goals

War is meant to achieve peace

Soldiers take their final breath

Realizing they were only a chess piece

No job without a degree

Although all I’ve learned in college

Is how to obtain Hepatitis B

United States flags made in China

To save a nickel

And buy a home in the Carolinas

We succumb to power and greed

For happiness on Earth

But in the afterlife God will impede

So many religions with only one truth

How will we know what will be?

Faith is a legend like Babe Ruth

If the Titanic can descend

And Icarus can fly

Why do we try to pretend?

Nothing is unbreakable

And nothing is too dependable

Nothing lasts forever

But never say never

The ironies of life happen every day

Keep your karma in check

And let fear slip away
