Poem -

It’s Not That I Did Not Know Love

Her hair, soft yarn that I weave between my fingers
The smell I memorize, like my favorite childhood memory.
Her gaze I catch, timid but strong and full of passion,
If only I could pull her away from her past and pain
For I would dance away with her heart without a single question or doubt.

Lost in the clouds of her eyes, I am reminded of the storminess of life
Falling deep the rabbit hole of my own worries and inhibitions
But her, my own mad hatter, offering me a place at the table
So I might not be alone at the tea party
And I do the same for her.

I cannot help but love our matching scars and smiles,
For it seems to help us fit so well together
And the pain seems so much easier to deal with when someone understands.
It is not that I have not known love before her,
But to show love creates a new perspective for love.

I crave her, not because she makes me hungry
But because when she leaves a hole is left
Creating a doubt where once no question was meant
It’s not that I did not know love before her,
But that love is more complete now that I know her.
