Jamaica Emancipation and Independence
Emancipation
Â
emancipation,
an emancipated nation
emancipation
freed from a mental situation
emancipation
fought for by Bogle, Gordon and uncle Sam
emancipation
the removal of shackles from our hands and, freedom for the next generation
emancipation
freedom with conditions
emancipation
earned from the sweat and blood of rebellions,
men whose will were too strong to be whipped into submission
emancipation
the earned right to be equal, out a many we are one,
emancipation
the birthday of a nation.
1838, August 1.
===============================
Independence
Â
The year 1962,
100 plus years after being freed
This time getting rid of the queen,
Finding our identity,
The birth of a nation,
Jamaica’s creation,
Our flag, our motto, parliament’s inception
First emancipation now the addition
To rule our lives as freed men and woman
Now we are 54 years on
And still going strong
We’ve come so far along,
Hit the golden mark, now looking towards the diamond
Happy Emancipendence, be proud, we are Jamaicans
