The Journey

With every ending in our lives, there is always a new beginning
If we take ourselves out of the game then we forfeit all we could be winning
But in life there is no definite conclusion to the story that we write
We tear out the pages, scratch out the mistakes, and once more rewrite
When the chapters of our lives get weary, dark, and deep
Remember we are just fleeting travelers in these somber woods we keep
How many miles can we walk alone while these woods fill up with snow
Without having another's warmth to rescue us from these temperatures below
Although in this bitter cold we've been scarred by sorrow, loss, and pain
The story must go on, even in the dark, even in the rain
We don't have to hide away from taking responsibility
Take chances, keep moving, make the impossible a possibility
I've been wandering aimlessly in this unforgiving frost
Unaware of how numb I've been, considering all that I've lost
You came into my world and reminded me that I'm still real
As if I were human, had a heartbeat, as if I could feel
Despite the darkness and uncertainty that perches in our sighting
You're the words I've written that will not erase, the words I want to keep writing
After the distance we've walked alone in the haunting chill and unresponsive call
I will always be beside you in these woods as the snow continues to fall
