Journey through America - in memory of the murdered poet Will Bell

Journey through America with reference to American poetry

To Miami,  I am bound
Bahamas & St Thomas,
San Juan too
Onto Grand Turk and
sail onwards to grand view

On a train LA
San Fran
Diego

South, I am traveling past Cambria and pine trees
Moro Bay and
wine to please,
Historic San Luis Obispo
Curved bay Santa Barbara,
Ventura, then
LA

A little of my
trip to
San Francisco, I go
across the bridge
Golden Gate
and Monterrey divine,
I taste the Napa
and sample wine
Mud bath at Calistoga,
Sonoma Enoteca
Eureka!

Robert Lee Frost, poet -San Francisco 1874-1963

I take in Muir Woods
To be a little understood,
Sausalito

Can't forget Lake Tahoe
Through the Black Rock Desert
And the buzzards
To Elko and Humboldt River
Idaho sure does deliver

A little more at Twin Falls
I make Snake River
Down to Jackson Hole
And Salt Lake shiver

Give me a day at Moab
And the rapid Colorado,
Bryce Canyon and Coconino
You'll see the Mojave Desert bravado,
Past Seligman at 7
A gambling man
in gambling heaven

So down to Vegas and Mammoth Lakes
Zabriske Point to Half Dome and more,
Granite floor

Grand Canyon unforgettable
South Rim
Battleship

Another side to describe,
Not forgetting the drive
to Salem
to watch a witch
I went,
Gloucester and Rockport
Maine
Mountains White
In heaven again

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow,Poet,  Maine - b1807

East Coast Niagara
The Berkshires, I'm in
Massachusetts
Smoky Mountains
 Tennessee,
God's mouth
Appalachian New England
Georgia in the south

New Hampshire stole my heart
The bears and moose
Deers apart,
Down to Stowe
And Vermont too
Bridges old
And bridges new

Old Sturbridge Village
My eyes do pillage
Water mills
And flower thrills,
I head to Cape Cod
My life to God,
Walk the dunes
Massachusetts and
Mayflower tunes

Emily Dickinson, poet Massachusetts 1886

Bring it on Route 66
Ozark and Springfield
Cowboys and Comanches
Albuquerque and Santa Fe
Along the trails,
Navajo way

If you ask my favorite
To satisfy my mania
The Battle of Gettysburg
Or perhaps Philadelphia

Charlotte Temple 1794 Philadelphia
Author Susanna Rowanson

From the Autumn colors New England you'll see
O' Boston,
Time for tea

Quebec City
Sing a ditty
 ol' man can,
Montreal Vieux Port, Notre Dame

Can't forget New York
Long Island
Watkins Glen wine
Lake Seneca,
Manhattan skyline

Walt Whitman, poet Long Island 1819-1892

Did I mention Chicago
1673,
Black Hawk defeated
Lake Michigan
Mississippi

Langston Hughes, poet Chicago
1902-1967

....up Hancock Tower
Spot the park
Lincoln
Washington
Grant
A dream enchant

Gwendolyn Brooks, poet
Chicago -1917-2000

I haven't forgotten Texas
San Antonio
Alamo
Davy Crockett way to go
Defeated Mexican ho ho ho

Karla K Morton, poet, Texas

Then on last leg,
 deep south journey
Memphis Tennessee
Holy Holy

Stroll along Beale and hear the Blues
Country music Nashville
Happy Tunes

I'm roaming the Quarter French in main
Voodoo on Bayou street
Lake Pontchartrain

Down the gateway to Miami where I began,
You'd be a fan
Of
South Beach
Art deco
Everglades
Key Largo

Will Bell, Miami poet
Murdered 2011

That's my trip to USA
I'd do it all again one day

Step of the foot

Step of the foot

Nevertheless
Beneath
The dreadlocks
Beneath
The mohawk
The heart...

Poem -

the child coffin

the child coffin

With these
Five
Fingers
l l l l l
Thy hand killed
Strangled life...

Poem -

Days of love and black...

Days of love and black bruises

Still
I
Think of
You
In My
Skin
My
Thick
