Poem -

July 3rd

It was July third, I remember that day

In the backyard, my son at play

Counting the seconds til the it's dark

The fireworks make my dogs all bark

I lit a smoke bomb for my son

He  was really having fun

Then he said "Dad my head"

I 'm so lucky he's not dead

He passed out in my arms

I put him in the car

He threw up on the back seat

I was scarred for sure

I ran four red lights that night

I'd gladly do it again

I drove eighty miles an hour on the way to Providence

I gave him to the doctors and this what they said

His brain is bleeding, "We have to go into his head"

"We have to it right away, or else he'll be dead"

The Chaplin prayed with us,

I damn sure think it helped

They relieved the pressure, put him on a plane

Took him to Dornbeckers,

Did surgery on his brain

It didn't work the first time

They had to go back in

That brain surgeon will always be my friend

The kid came out of surgery

Gave the doc two thumbs up

Then he told the nurse to order a hamburger up.

I knew right then he's was gonna be O.K.

July 3rd I remember that day.
