JUST A FLOWER

Friends today
Enemies yesterday
History rewritten the next day
Amnesia has found a home
In their battle scared psyche
To assuage the horrors of the past
They Knowingly pretend to forget
It was a catastrophe
A dismal loss of life and territory
A stain on humanity
But no one seems angry
They remember the good bits
And smile into eternity
How foolish can nirvana be?
Sorrow is washed away by a flower
Sadness imbibed with a delicate
Thing of red
Grief is chastised to accept as good
What was bad
What of all those people
Who are now dead?
Buy to assuage your unexplained guilt
Follow the bandwagon that
Caused past hatred to balloon
Wear it with ignorant pride
Celebrating failure
That caused loss of so many youths
The rationing you view with pride
Despite having to make do with less
Your ingenuity came to the fore
So you view the past with misty eyes
Ignorance leads to amnesia
Amnesia leads to recurring nightmares
As truth can never be explored
History always repeats itself
It is a mantra as old as time
We may not do better the next time
The poppy is pride with no test
The victories they remember are worthless
Humanity can cause so much distress
