Just Humor Her Worrisome Mind

A kick, a nudge
at first sleeps hold
is so strong and I do not budge.
My name....called in repeat
it echoes silently
into my dream,
violently head thrashes awake
all things that were comforting, pleasant
now stolen away.
She speaks soft but urgent, "A noise downstairsÂ
did you hear?"
"Please go check!"
Growing frantic with fear.
She's crazy, I know
such a worry wart
I lift the body shake head and go,
Flicking necessary lights on mounting top steps
recurring sounds from the basementÂ
my heart has momentarily leapt.
Putting fear asside your man of the house
I've raided all rooms
just to reassure my pretty worried spouse.
Upon entry into dark feelingÂ
basements have always set my mind
to go reeling,
halfway down the fright deploys
there's always an explanationÂ
and this one I chalk up to one of my kid's toys
left on in the toy box running out of juice,
with that turned off
there's no reluctance in delivering the good news.
When I reach the top step on the second floor
a noise from downstairs occurs
my wife emerges saying, "That's what I heard before."
"I was just down there....and nothing", I say
she begs, "Go check again!"
without argument saves from being a long day.
A distinctive sound attracts my ears
faded much slower
stirs back in the dark feeling fears.
That damn toy I swear was brought to silence
this time....
it will end in violence,Â
lighting up the night im my own angry spark
picking up the quiet toy switched off
turning wide eyes swallowed by the dark.
