Just An Ordinary Man

Just An Ordinary Man

When I first saw him he was so ordinary.

Not the type I would pick as attractive

 Certainly no movie star.

But he waited outside my small flat.

Day after day in the pouring Seattle rain.

 Soaked to the skin

just to catch a glimpse of me.

He knew all my moods, my sadness

 Sometimes happy or often broken.

He knew just what to say to

 clear away the pain..

 How did you always

 make me feel so beautiful?

 I don’t know why

 I decided to marry him.

 Maybe because

 the stars spangled that night.

 Because his eyes teared

 when Bambis mother died.

 Perhaps because I knew

 he would never control me.

Because he was so gentle in everything.

 I said yes.

 I have lost him now

and the world is not as bright.

 There have been other imposters

I acted out the tender movements of love.

But in the fading light of evening.

 It was always you honey.

 Because only you knew

 how to fix me.
