Just Wait
A Coronavirus poem

Just Wait by Amy Breen, Dublin 8
All we are asked to do is to Wait,
Just Waitβ¦..
Even though we donβt know the date,
We must Waitβ¦.
Are we being shown our vulnerable fate?
As many of us have already met him at the gate.
They are gazing down on us and they see our communities together,
Joining our hearts forever and ever.
Oh, I think the meaning is very deep and clever
We got caught up in our pace and crawled into our own headspace,
But we forgot about our human race.
Now, our basic needs are being met each day,
And we can see those we miss in a new and innovative way.
But listen, the birds of the world are continuing to sing,
And phones around the world will continue to ring,
And we will see that the Wait itself is leading to better things.
Thereβs a serenity, clarity and calmness in our streets,
Now, we even greet the strangers that we meet,
Not to mention our homes have never been so meticulously neat,
Our conversations are soft, they are simple and they are sweet.
On our pathways and grocery aisles we will continue to swerve,
Until they say we have flattened this curve.
So, we all must sit tight and just wait,
Just waitβ¦
Just wait a while,
Until all this passes,
And make sure that we continue to smile.
And then we can stand tall β united in love with the masses.

Ooops... Mine isn't (been too busy writing) ? but that is my fault.Β I love the way you have pinpointed what we have all probably felt and seen in these challenging days. You have written so clearly and so well and I think you are spot on with your observations (apart from my untidy home... But, then, I am probably the only person in the world whose house isn't spotless right now... Runs to hide head in shame). A great write ? x

Hi Amy. A thought provoking and insightful piece on the harrowing situation that we find ourselves, but there is hope amongst the fear, anxiety and alarm and that hope is in the kindness, support and care shown to each other during these truly unnerving times. I felt that your poem captured this. Beautiful writing. Thank you for sharing. I hope you are very well and coping with the challenges pesented before us. Take great care and keep writing.
