KING ALFRED AND THOSE BURNT CAKES

On the run he needed a place to escape
For King Alfred had got himself into a scrape
The Vikings were after him hunting him down
Needed to leave quickly and get out of town

Refuge was given by a peasant woman one day
A wonderful hideout to keep the Vikings at bay
"Watch my cakes by the fire" the woman said
With all his problems Alfred burnt them instead

So this is how Alfred and burnt cakes came to be
A children's story passed down through history
I'm not quite sure how this fine story ended
Only hope he thanked the woman he befriended

I loved reading this. Nice touch of humour within. Good flow and good tale told
