Lady of Mandalay--(inspired by Gone With The Wind)

Mandalay Lady
The sky glows red with fiery embers
The towns on fire now burning timbers.
The South has lost this cursed war
Why can’t it be just like before?
So many people now in the earth
For this, what was it worth?
I am only a woman all alone.
But I will re-build this lovely home.
We have lost our southern nation
In ruins my beloved Mandalay plantation.
No more slaves they all are free.
Yet freedom is just another word
If you have nowhere else to be.
I have them here they are looking at me
We will rebuild, we will survive
At least we are here and still alive.
I will take care of my people here.
No more fighting no more fear.
What little’s left we will share.
The lady of Mandalay still cares.
The people here are my family.
They belong here, just as much as me.
The world had changed, it’s a whole new stage.
When we sell our cotton, each a living wage.
It was not right the way it’s been.
We will be more productive as a team.
The south will rise again one day.
We will rebuild our Mandalay.
We all will see a perfect life
Far from need and want and strife
I swear to God, I will never rest
I will die before I fail this quest.
We all will make this plantation right
Side by side both black and white.
