Larry Does The Bunny Hop

Larry Does The Bunny Hop

The day after seeing Ava I drove right to the beach, to Atlantic City I went;

For I loved being on the Boardwalk, for much time there had I always spent!

Ever since I was a young boy in Philly, our summers there we would spend;

My Dad would rent us a very nice place, to stay for two whole months on end!

So I went there to heal my sad heart, and mingle with kids out on the Boards;

For it was always a big teen hangout, with girls so easily adored!

I was with my best friend Norman, who lived in Manhattan town;

When I told him I was going there, he said he would love to also go down!

We got there Friday and found a room, then to the Boardwalk we quickly went;

It took not long to spot two cute girls, we thought for us both had been sent!

One of them had strawberry blonde hair, cascading down her back;

I thought, “I think this pretty young lass, could get me back on track”!

They must have really liked us, for we talked a real long time;

The more I looked at this lovely young girl, my heart stopped on a dime!

She was seventeen, her name was Bunny, a senior this year in school;

I could tell she was smitten with me, and thought I was really cool!

We walked, then stopped for a little treat, some Breyer’s good ice cream;

We held hands while we were strolling, could she be the answer to my dreams?

We kissed good night and made more plans, for the morning at the beach;

When we saw them waiting for us, their promise they had not breached!

We laid the towels out and put on some oil, to tan in the burning sun;

I rubbed some on Bunny’s smooth back, I felt a romance had begun!

After basking and getting real hot, an impulse came over me;

I picked Bunny up and ran with her, then flung her into the sea!

I’ll never forget the look on her face, my “hero”, my “dashing knight”;

“Who lifted me up so easily, I love his strength and might”!

We went to lunch and ate some hot dogs, then parted till the night;

We went underneath the Boardwalk, where we could kiss and be out of sight!

Bunny was going home the next day, to Philadelphia, the Northeast;

I told her I’d be there in four days, so on each other we could feast!

I took Norman back to New York, and stayed a couple of days;

Then drove down to Philadelphia, to again on Bunny gaze!

I stayed right at my Bubby’s house, a half hour from where Bunny lived;

For four great days we dated, then decided our hearts to give!

The night before I went home, to Ohio for my business start;

I gave her my high school class ring, we vowed we’d never part!

Three weeks later I flew back there, for my cousin’s Bar Mitzvah day;

But my Bunny had gotten colitis, and in the hospital did she lay!

I went there twice to see her, I wished her soon to get all well;

She was so depressed and saddened, the tears in her eyes did well!

We wrote lots of love letters to each other, I called her twice a week;

I concentrated on my business, so it could reach its financial peak!

In the first days of December, I drove to Philly for a show;

An important coin convention, the Turnpike had some snow!

At last we were reunited, she came down to be with me;

I walked her through the coin show, dealers strained their eyes to see!

She wore a dress that showed her assets, thin body and a waist petite;

With her long hair hanging loosely, the dealers all reeled upon their feet!

I admit I thought I’d found love, this girl the zenith of all I’d need;

We were young and both were virgins, neither had yet offered their seed!

Our last night together we came real close, to losing our virginity;

But we stopped before the great act, we knew that our time would ever be!

Then I drove back to Ohio, but on December twenty-fifth;

I kissed my Father Happy Birthday, then drove to Philly with Bunny’s gift!

Of course her present was her Larry, I stayed for ten most precious days;

She was out of school on vacation, the love we shared us amazed!

I left then for a big show down in Florida, in Old St. Petersberg;

But I was gone for only ten days, then returned to my little bird!

I came for three days more on Friday, with my Bunny, the Queen of the hop;

I brought her back a golden necklace, we vowed our love would never stop!

The time came for me to go home, our last night was filled with tears;

We didn’t want to separate, but she had to finish her senior year!

But I told her I would come back to her in April, we’d be together once again;

I would arrange with my coin business, much time in Philadelphia spend!

My Dear Debs,

Yes, Debs, I always liked the girls much more than the boys.  I went through many of them over the years, until I finally found the "Lady of my dreams".  Glad you liked it.

Hugs, Peace and Love,

Larry my fellow brother poet.....what an amazing write. Reminds me of my youthful summer days down in Wildwood(because im from northeast Philadelphia and we would vacation there for our week) me and my cousin picking up girls enjoying the beach the air the sights and sounds which I think you conveyed nicely in your story, but one thing I liked most was how you focused not much on the sights sounds and scenery but the girl and the romance which when you delve into those beginning fancy stages of love nothing else matters but the attention of her. Very cool story that I related too and appreciate you sharing. Peace.

Dear Brother Poet Devon,

Thank you fellow Philadelphian.  I lived there until I was six, than we moved to Ohio for my father's business.  But we always came back to visit several times a year.  My Grandmother, Uncles, Aunts, and Cousins, all lived in Mt. Airy, and I can't tell you how much time I spent there.  We would rent in Ventnor during the summer, but I've also been to Wildwood several times.  Bunny went to Northeast High.  Is that where you went?  I guess you and I fully understand the lyrics of the song "Under The Boardwalk".  Thank you so much for your beautiful review.

Peace and Love,

Hi Sweet Rose,

I'm so glad you loved my story.  It really makes me feel good to delve into my past, and recall all these wild and crazy times I experienced.  I love that you had to hold your breath, because I think that is one of the aims of an author, to keep them guessing.  "Tammy's In Love" Part I, will be ready in a couple of days.

Love you too,

Daddio xxx
