THIS LAST AUGUST (Petrachan Sonnet)

Let’s devote this last August to a lifetime
And place our joys in September’s memory.
We’ll delve deep, not just take a cursory
View but measure each daydream within its prime
And prophesy into the wind with voice sublime:
“He will not meditate an inventory
Of what might have been in next summer’s glory
But serenade another with his heart rhyme.”
I bequeath to you nothing of me to grieve
For our life together has come full circle.
No pangs of regret for I truly believe
I’ve loved you with every breath and muscle!
Love, the miracle of us we did conceive
Let this door close…begin a new lifecycle!

Thanks Susan...I had a friend who left her husband behind. Â She wanted to make sure that he would find love and life after her death. Â I have lost touch with him but I believe that he has found a new path. Â val
