Laughter

There was laughter.
The “I’m so tired I can barely function” kind of laughter.
There were giggles,
Groans,
And even more laughter
As the older girl was on the receiving end of her dog’s glare.
Then more laughter,
Intermixed with the calling for the dog,
Who then proceeded to not look at her owner.
Another groan came from the boy
As the dog proceeded to flop down next to him
And both the older and younger girl giggled.
Eventually the giggles, laughter, and groans
Faded to deep breathing and soft snores.
Sleep took over as the clock ticked past three
And even though the laughter was gone
The togetherness remained.
They were siblings,
Though not by blood,
And it took a lot more than distance to take away the laughter.
