Lay Down Your Weapons

Lay Down Your Weapons

What is a trophy? Itā€™s a symbol of success,
When people clap & cheer, those who try best

It could be a metallic cup,
figurine, or wooden shield,
But to some itā€™s grinning over a wild animal, shot dead in a field

Stood proud as punch, wearing a gun slung casually over shoulder,Ā
With one boot placed on corpse as if it were nothing but stone boulder

A lion, beautiful mane, stood protecting his pride,
But now laid slumped dead, cold, hunters smile beaming wide

A giraffe, tall & graceful reaching for succulent leaves,
Now laid bloodied, life taken, as hunter defiantly rolls up sleevesĀ

A matriarchal elephant, ears cooling, spraying water on hard leathered skin,
Now, Ivory ripped from its body, bloodstained trunk, no guilt felt from hunter withinĀ

Lay down your weapons hunters & see what true gifts I see,
Beautiful animals roaming plains & fields as nature intended to beĀ

Hunters, void of humanity, no respect for our earths creatures,
All I see is evil bloodlust, cruel ugliness in your featuresĀ

Being Me

Oh well said ???? and so poetically too!Ā  It makes me sick to see the pictures of lifeless animals beneath a hunters cheesy grin. These poor animals are not trophies, they are tragedies. How I wish the hunters would fall victim to a terrible death by teeth and claws, but the dreadful truth is, is that there is no animal on earth as dangerous as the human being. Fantastic poem and I wish I could give 10 stars ...so..āāāāāāāāāā x

Thank you so very much Being Me. Every time I see those horrendous photographs of inhumane killers I feel physically sick. More needs to be done to stop this evil act worldwide. I feel your passion through your words for these defenceless beautiful animals. & Iā€™ll definitely take the 10 stars! ? xxx

More DOES need to be done to stop it! I think the fault all boils down to greediness and money. These "hunters" pay a fortune to be able to carry out their sick and vile fantasies (killing big game). All the time they are willing to pay big bucks the slaughter will go on, unfortunately. Governments need to stop this vile trade.... I cannot see any reason why it cannot be made illegal...I really think money is the cause ??????????

Its very sad that there are some of us with these outdated minds, governments allowing guns in the hands of the blind, I cannot bear to see this, I pray for change, but sometimes I feel it's us humans that need to feel the grenades.

Just as Being Me said, Gerard, thereā€™s no animal more dangerous than humankind. Itā€™s truly horrific. I just hope one day this is made illegal worldwide. We can only hope x

Hi Tracey. Well put verse on a topic close to my heart. I'm a vegetarian so I feel even more for the poor animals that get killed for hunting, eating and whatever else. As being me said it's a tragedy and humans are the worst for this planet.Ā
You have captured the essence of this tragedy beautifully in your descriptive words. Thank you for sharing xxx

Hi Tracey, I hope this comment finds you very well. An important awareness raising write that highlights the words of Bhagavad Gita, and I quote. Ā“Ā“When you feel the suffering of every living thing in your own heart, that is consciousness.Ā“Ā“Ā  The potent power of your pen tackles this issue. Thank you for sharing. xx

Hi Tony, hope youā€™re all ok at your end. Thank you so much for your appreciation of this piece. I get so upset seeing pictures of these cruel trophy hunters. One day, hopefully, weā€™ll never have to see scenes like this again x

Hi Tracey, hope you are ok too. Yes, I know how you feel, very upsetting indeed, especially when so many species are on the critically endangered list. Unbelievable that these vile, barbaric acts are not a thing of the past. A powerful awareness inducing piece. Take great care and keep writing! xx
