Legend

Setting out on its maiden voyage
The grandest design of its age
All aboard thinking of new lives ahead
Woken abruptly from their bed
The ice had acted like a knife
To take away such life
Like a stab to the heart
Ripping steel plates apart
Floundering in the calmest sea
A lesson for you and me
Mans arrogance had cost this ship dear
With journeys end so very near
Lifeboats unable to cope with the number
Who had risen from their slumber
A legend starts to unfold
Of death in the icy cold
The innocents have to pay
For the unsinkable sinking, let us pray.
.............................................
More than a century the inquest carries on
About exactly what went wrong
But we all know the story
Of the majestic liners lost glory
And the many who took fright
Realising their lives were to end that night
We must always remember the cost
And appreciate what was lost
One mans desire for haste
Led to such an appalling waste
So never forget, this tragedy in the Atlantic
Of the ill fated Titanic
