Lessons

Lessons

it was the Summer of 72
Miss Maycook took Needlework
she was good with a needle
she knew exactly where
to poke it
The miner's were on strike
power cuts and little money
were a plentiful sight
This is all your father's fault
she said
knit one pearl  one
having a jab under the belt
we were sat in a silent room
no power, just dropping stitches
and picking them up politely
were we allowed..to learn  ?
our sun shone bright
life - whatever  ! gave
our parched bones
amazement
Domestic Science next
I would be baked...
 I had all the ingredients
for a double choc laden fresh cream
communist cake
