LET THEM SLEEP

LET THEM SLEEP             TIM WILLIAMS     NOV. 2015

I SIT , I WATCH , I DON'T UNDERSTAND,
AS A FIREBALL FALLS FROM THE SKY,
JUST LIKE ICARUS, .................JUST LIKE ICARUS,
IT HITS THE GROUND AND FINGERS OF
BLACK SMOKE RISES TOWARDS TWO
FLOATING SUBJECTS HANGING BY THIN THREADS
OF SANITY TO WISPS OF FRAGILE CLOUDS,
THEY HANG THERE LIKE PUPPETS,
TARGET PRACTICE FOR THE BLIND,
AND THEN.......................................,
THEIR PUPPETEER STOPS PULLING THE STRINGS,
I NEVER DREAMT THAT IN MY LIFETIME,
EDWARD THOMAS , WILFRED OWEN AND ALUN LEWIS
WOULD HAVE CAUSE TO RAISE THEIR PENS AGAIN,
LET THEM SLEEP, FOR OUR CHILDRENS SAKE,
LET THEM SLEEP.
