Like An Actor (we lie)

Sweet ocean, the proscenium stage
To lose yourself
In its magical wilderness,
As a single thorn
Upon the stem of the loveliest
Of roses,
Drawing blood
From one's audience,
Like the actor in each of us
Telling perfect
Lies,
To evoke a singular response
To get what you want
From the Love
Displayed,
Whether it be truth or not
We still swim
The proscenium ocean,
An act
That not many
Ever dare
Attempt,
For fear
Of being caught,
With the forked tongue
Of the misbegotten..

Hi Tony, I think their is an actor inside so many of us. Lying to save face, lying to save someone's feelings we consider white lies...it's just uncertain where that line is drawn between white lies and real deception.
this is really great and gave me lots to think about
All my love

Dear Poet Sister LORNA!!.....thanx so much for taking time with this one.....I know what you mean..... there IS a little bit of an actor in us all.....sometimes we have to stretch the truth just to NOT hurt someone's feelings or tell little white lies to help us get the job we're applying for!!..... it's an interesting thing since most of the time lie's are perceived as being negative..... when that is not always the case!!...... you are an observant soul..... which of course makes for an excellent writer!!...... always a pleasure girlfriend!!...... Kings to you!!...... smiles......T xo ?✳✴☀♥?♥?
The audience is the real problem! They want to believe the lies so badly, they'll overlook any slip of the mask and if they encounter an incongruity...they just paper it over with qualia.
Our minds are built that way...our brains evolved that way...we want to tell stories...and we want to believe the stories that we're told.
That "proscenium ocean" is filled with sharks...but who can resist taking a dip from time to time?!?
Intriguing poem...
J ;)
Amen to that JASON!!...{one thing, I wrote a much more detailed reply to this comment but right before I pushed the 'publish' button, it vanished.... go figure!}.....I very much agree with the idea that we as human beings have a NEED to tell and hear stories!.... it was, initially, a way to make other tribes or colonies etc., familiar with or, in some cases even aware, of one another existence...... and ultimately a crucial means of communication of every sort......I SO appreciate your comprehension and finesse in commenting so consistently 'above and beyond' my friend....... Indeed, ~" Who CAN resist taking a dip from time to time!?" (smiles)....thanx again bro!!...... your friend and admirer...,,,T xo ?☀✴
Ps. Thanx for the new word ~ 'qualia'...... GREAT word!!
Ah Tony!!
I've lost more than one comment in that way...
It's always the really good ones too, don't you find?! The ones you've spent time turning over in your mind and etching out the phrasing just right...then Boom!...it's gone!!
It's so annoying; sometimes you wish you'd just written some generic nonsense like...
"Hey! I relate to this thing that you wrote...we've both got hair...let's be pals!!!"
But no...such fripperies are beneath poets. So we go back and write it again...and again...and again...etc...
your friend & admirer too,
J ;)
Jason!!.... there are a few of us sitting here.... talking poetry.... and then your reply came in and I read aloud for everyone..... we're still laughing at your 'more than humorous' ~ "......We've both got hair...." line!!..... nothing like a great sense of humor to gain new fans instantly like that!!.......thanx for the smiles brother!!....ttyl.....T xo ?☀✴✳♥??
Fripperies?....is that slang or something?..... hmmm?
Fripperies?! Slang!! Not at all...it's a perfectly respectable English word which refers to small, silly and insignificant things. Though it's not been used much in common parlance since the Edwardian period!!
J ;)
LOL!!... in other words....SLANG!! ~ to us imperfect "English-using" Americans....HUGE SMILES!!!....T ? ♥
My Dear Brother Poet Tony,
My tongue was born a Thespian
It thrives on the "proscenium stage"
In secret script it reads the lines
Its audience so well engaged
.
It's won two Oscars and a "Treasured Tony"
For performances of great acclaim
It goes only by a pseudonym
One never knows its actual name
.
Peace, Love and Pinocchios,
Larry xxx
You're awesome Sir LARRY!!..... Love the way you used a plethora of stage & acting terminology to compliment my write and yours as well!!..... clever stuff!!..... but the addition of the personal touches made this stand out for me....." Its won two Oscars and a 'Treasured Tony' ~ SO creative my friend!!!.....so glad I'm on your good side....I would hate to have that high-powered creative mind of yours firing humorous negativity at me!! (big smiles)..... don't ask me!...I have no idea what made me think of that!! (more smiles)...... anyway, thanx for all the smiles brother poet!! (LOL)......ttyl.....T xo ?✳✴☀♥?♥?
Thank you so much my fellow Knight
Your odes e'er excite me
Oft times, they are "SIRREAL"
They take me from our "Round Table" to thrones on distant stars
I try to repay you with ones of my own, hoping they will bring a smile to your handsome face
Your Fellow Knight,
Sir Larry
