Lioness

Lioness

She was no angel
That’s for sure!
Our mum,
Such beauty had no choice
except to lead them all astray,
Pied Piper with her slender legs
She whistled everyone away!

She was no housewife
That’s for sure!
The dishes left to soak all day.
The hoovering of no import
Because she had her hair to do
And dad would sort it anyway!

She was no wallflower
That’s for sure!
A party -starter every time.
A coloured cigarette in hand.
A glass of very sparkly wine

But please - do not be so misled
To think her combination bad
In fact the opposite is true
She’d make you smile if you were blue.

She’d always help a friend in need
And share her story if it helped
Without a judgment, just an ear
And make sure you were warm and fed

She taught me truth to be myself
To know that sometimes I might lapse
Like pavements that have tiles unset
She taught me how to jump the gaps

How kindness is our biggest tool
And human ego can be frail
But trusting that I know myself
Makes life impossible to fail.

Thank you for everything mum.

Hello ANNABELLA!!....I like how the first two stanzas lead the reader to believe that your mom was not such a good person but then in the final stanzas she is found to be quite wonderful....which makes the whole of the poem quite charming and VERY REAL!!...Because, after all, no one is perfect and that makes this all the more palatable for the reader!!......ALL STARS!! & PINNED!!...a VERY fine tribute poem dear poet sister!!.......well penned!!.....LOVE & ROCKETS!!.......T xo  : )
