Lost love

Lost love

She knocked upon my door,
We had been lovers in the past,
Though our love, illicit love,
Was not allowed to last.
We never ever said goodbye,
Just three words I love you,
Over thirty years of believing,
That those three words be true.
Still radiant, she stands before me,
My heart was in my throat,
Time stood still, we just stared,
Our minds seemed to be afloat.
Not a word was spoken,
As we fell in sweet embrace,
And then  from arms length,
I saw my smile upon her face.
