Love and Emphysema

Roots intertwined
reaching

coming together

embracing 

life has formed

interconnected 

together they grow

a new bud emerges

lips opening

petals preparing to breathe
 

there is a jolt

a rasping cough
 

a fragrant scent is meant to release 

instead 

the smell of smoke spreads

clouds of ash block the sun

the rain begins

harsh

rasping as it falls

the stem bends

leaves ripped away

torn into shreds

the flower wilts

wheezing as it fades

no breath left to give

The roots that had become one

die as one

The smell of decay remains
