Loving Black

Loving Black

Water drips from a most rich stark foliage

It dives kamikaze onto a wet green lichen as deeply dark as a midnight lake

A goth rose with the blood of a million martyrs defies all other shades

The electric blue of a crow's wingshine flashes against the haze of cloudlight

She digs her sharp coal talons into the brittle bark of a dark wise beech

Imperceptible threads of maroon escape the prison of my thick woolen coat

They catch the silver droplets that bypass my shading umbrella

Sprinkles of cocoa hide under the steam of my coffee sea

I walk through the flattening drizzle along with the other wayang characters

The dynamic swirling of ashen tyres shakes the pantomime with swishes

They evoke the gentle clang of symbols and the rattling of angklung

Streetlights set in ebony breasts highlight the drama

This is a glorious stroll by deeper hues of colour that unite as one silhouette

Merging to fill the empty windows of my eyes

We lack nothing

For nothing is truly black
