MANTLEPIECE OF MEMORIES

MANTLEPIECE OF MEMORIES

I rest a while in my dining room chair
I look at the mantlepiece and the memories there
There on the ledge are memories galoreĀ
All to do with what life has had in storeĀ

A photo there of my father and motherĀ
An ornament given by my younger brotherĀ
A clock that no longer ticks been in the family for years
My 21st birthday tankard which held a few beersĀ

The mantlepiece now has a new additionĀ
Something that stands close to the televisionĀ
It's the place where Dad's ashes will restĀ
After all he loved the mantlepiece the bestĀ
Ā
