MANTLEPIECE OF MEMORIES

MANTLEPIECE OF MEMORIES

I rest a while in my dining room chair
I look at the mantlepiece and the memories there
There on the ledge are memories galore
All to do with what life has had in store

A photo there of my father and mother
An ornament given by my younger brother
A clock that no longer ticks been in the family for years
My 21st birthday tankard which held a few beers

The mantlepiece now has a new addition
Something that stands close to the television
It's the place where Dad's ashes will rest
After all he loved the mantlepiece the best
