Memories

Memories

The shouts of children playing,
Bring back my happy youth.
To recall the time I was ten,
And lost a good front tooth.

Piled three kids on a sled,
Just room enough for me.
Glided smoothly down the hill,
Until we hit that tree.

Pulled myself together,
Surveyed my only sled.
Thought sadly how it looked,
No more shiny new and red.

Suddenly I stopped,
Put my hand to my face.
Felt where a tooth should be,
I had an empty space.

Went yelling home to mother,
Quite sure I'd soon be dead.
But next day I was out again,
With a battered paintless sled.

Dedicated to N.H.S nurse Meg and many more of her kind team.
Who I met at 17.30 at Cardiff Bays Jabs R Us on 07/06/2021.
Thanks for the jab and this is your poem now to share with like minded good people.
Thank you Meg and everybody else there on your long day and you're never forgotten.
May God Bless and Keep you Meg and the loved ones around you and enjoy life.

The NHS are a marvel, and what a lovely gift Shaun :) My son has his first wobbly tooth at the moment (bottom front) He is happy wiggling it. You are so good at your tributes and narrative writes. Always a joy to read x

Gwen you are sooo right in what for they are a marvel and this was the least I could do for good Meg and her dedicated caring team.
And when your son's tooth eventually comes out, do you put it under his pillow for The Tooth Fairy and pray tell what is the going rate these days.
I had 5p as a kid which I spent on sports mixtures and refreshers and those flying saucers filled with sherbert. Yummy!
Surprised the rest of them didn't fall out too after that little lot!!!
Thanks Gwen for your comments and for the sweet memories.❤️
and the N.H.S and all its staff are a national treasure and so glad they are here for us all.
Tireless good people and dedicated the lot of them.❤️❤️❤️

Thanks Jill and Meg and everyone there were bloody marvellous to me and all.
They were and still are working 12 hour a day, 7 days a week and Cardiff Bay which used to be a Toys R Us store has been renamed Jabs R Us by the good N.H.S staff there and its good to know they still haven't lost their sense of humour in these testing and troubling times.
Thanks Jill and if you've had your second jab too, no nasty side effects like the first one.
Hang in there and back tomorrow to read more of your poems my poetic penfriend.❤️❤️❤️
And hats off to our glorious N.H.S staff who are tireless and you are right in saying awesome, in what they do and for what they proudly stand for.❤️❤️❤️

Greg thank you so much and glad to hear your health is doing ok.
And NHS stands for our tireless and most appreciated National Health Service and you are right in saying a little better than what you have, in fact a lot better where UK citizens are ENTITLED to health care without cost.
Where, God forbid, a visit to ER or a lengthy stay in hospital won't bankrupt you.
Prescription medicine's are either free or capped at £8.60
It also affordably covers other things like dental care and physiotherapy.
It's a good and fair system and it has worked smoothly for many years.
Thanks again Greg and stay healthy and enjoy life my friend.

I loved this, I'm getting right into all the nostalgia!! Brilliantly done, OW that tooth...did the tooth fairy manage to find it??
I worked in A and E  for a long time (admin nothing clinical)  and this is a lovely tribute

Blimey Lorna!!
You are most certainly putting in the nostalgia miles tonight and thank you so much for doing so and my friend and for finding this oldie.
A respectful tribute to a hard working nurse and lovely woman and her tireless team, who all worked long ,long hours for days that never ended during Covid vaccinations.
Glad you enjoyed reading this bit of fun and that tooth was a milk tooth and another took its place.
And also respect to your good self for making the effort to have a wander and look back at older posts and not the hear and now current stuff.
I think some members lose sight of that and are missing out on other members older posts.
For what does one love, is it their latest poem and any accolades which are temporary or respect for other members previous posts and demonstrate a love of poetry overall.
Thanking you kindly Lorna and respect to you for visiting and your work with the N.H.S, regardless of whatever capacity and the N.H.S :) x.

Ahh good, Glad it was a baby tooth :)
Yes I think funnily enough get a feel of person when they're a writer. Its bit like an unsolicited biography!
I was quite unwell earlier this year and the NHS were amazing...couldn't thank them enough in reality

Lorna they are the tops and always will be with dedicated great staff who stood in harm's way when that pandemic hit.
Hope you're 100% now with nothing serious and lingering, tiptop and all that.
Hang in there and thanking you kindly and  be reading more of yours tomorrow
And I type incredibly slowly... for I use my teeth :) x.
