Memories of the Emirates

The simple things have truly been the best

Sharing iftar with the Bangladeshi bachelors in the neighbourhood

Random drives up jabal Hafeet

Watching cartoon episodes of Fareej

Playing ball with my son in the park

Trips to camel farms for dates and fresh warm milk

Cake and scrabble together at Marina Mall

ToastMasters nights at Tawaam Hospital

Dropping by to see my librarian friends during my lunch break

Trips to the Liwa Date Festival

European Films at the Rotana

Visits to Buraimi wadis during torrential rain

Qur'anic classes at the Islamic Centre

Multicultural evenings at the University

Chilling with friends on a Saturday night

Playing cards and computer games in airconditoned majlis

Photographic walks through Al Ain Zoo

Exploring the Museums

Bargaining at the Souks

Cosmopolitan conversations in the nightclubs of Dubai

Cheap "all you can eat" South Indian Fridays

Waking up next to my lover, the mother of our child

Watching her get dressed as we got ready for a week of teaching

Driving her to school in the morning with pride and joy

So many simple things that enriched my little life

Thank you Allah

Thank you for Sheikh Zayed,
the father of our host nation
for that chapter of our journey
