Mermaid of Zennor

Mermaid of Zennor

The Mermaid of Zennor

there's tales of a beautiful maiden,
with sparkling emerald eyes,
and locks of spun gold,
there's tales of a humming
and a murmuring, across
wavy barmy seas of old..

She came to the tiny chapel
dresses as human in disguise,
in love with Mathew Trewella,
and sought him by her side..

one glimpse of the sweet maid,
and Mathew was bessoted..
into the briny drink he swayed.
exactly as she'd plotted..

and he with her, intoxicated
with melodious song,
a man and a mermaid
together as one..

Matthew was never seen again,
only by imps and Cornish witches
passing murmur on the wind.

if you go down to Cornwall
on the edge of the brink,
and you hear a murmour
like a singing, like a surfing.
as they say..
turn away, turn away
or you'll end up
in the drink..

Thanks Linda..I reckon that tale is what ' the little mermaid '  is based upon...a mermaid is carved in wood in the little church at Zennor.. Cornwall.
