Mesured In Pain

When I count the Cost
In all I callĀ  gain
Shadows for what's lost
Is measured in pain

Two birds in a bush
A reach that would teach
Thus the spirit's crush
Sits on silent preach

Mile markers of gain
But puddles of tears
Sorrow waits tear's rain
Perfect blend for fears

Calculating loss,
What wasn't held tight
Pocket full of dross
Holding what we might

What's measured is Pain,
Showing Life's true cost
For what will beĀ  gain
Reflex on what's lost
