Mixed Life

Mixed Life

Images of life flash by,

While lying low or flying high

Spinning 'round in daddy's arms,

Crying, screaming like fire alarms.

The many long goodnights I've said,

The nights I've cried alone in bed.

Hiking in the moutain breeze,

Running while my teardrops freeze.

Spinning through some garden rows,

Watching as the river flows.

Fire crackling all night long,

Alone, and singing my sad song..

Feeling love and perfect bliss,

Someone that i really miss.

All of this that's flashing by,

Nightmare mixed with lullaby.

That last line is so very beautiful; sweet, sad and beautiful.
There are so many compelling, contrasting images here; especially the opening image of being spun around by your father which perfectly sets up the theme and conflict at the heart of the poem.

This is a work of simple and elegant beauty.
