My Freezer Burned Heart

It’s hard to find someone who loves every single part of you,

Where every flaw is their

perfection

And every mistake is instantly

forgiven.

This person is immeasurably in love with you.

It’s not easy to find that level of devotion,

Where you are their

world

and air

and sun,

Where just seeing your face makes their heart

melt,

And knowing you don’t love them back makes that melted heart

solidify and shatter.

Going from melted to frozen,

they can’t escape a freezer burned heart,

but they don’t even blame you.

After all, they assume they don’t deserve an

angel as heavenly as you.

The temperature flux of their heart alters them

interminably,

Making them vulnerable and hyperaware of the

cold,

bitter

sadness in the world.

When their heart was melted,

the sadness simmered away in a hiss of steam,

taken by the wind and forgotten,

pushed aside,

disremembered.
