Multilayered Metaphor

It lacks all sense,
Happiness is the only desire.
But still...
The fish lies in wait,
Why does it not take my hook,
I put it's favorite treat on the line,
I'm so confused,
Lurking in the darkness,
Even though it desires light,
Occasionally another fisher comes along
The fish likes new things,
But it never bites.
Starving, dying, swimming around in darkness.
You'd think it dumb at the sound.
But I know better, I'm the best fisherman alive.
I'll wait as long as it takes to get that bite
And one day I'll meet the fish behind the scales.
One day...
