Music & Me...
I'll inquire not, where the gods bestow
Or from where the music does flow
For in winter's deep
My love does find a song beneath
The prophetic warmth of December snows

And in keepings keep
My promise to embrace the magic I seek
Does exact a human cost
My humanity bears a frosted cross
Those powers that endow me musically
-------------------------------------------
From a private cellar of age-old rhyme
I find Victorian Chants sublime
I bathe in the elegant nature of string quartets
And operatic magic on my heart does rest
My teenage years, in retrospect, not so blind
-------------------------------------------
Thus, allow me the rock-n-roll
The Pink Floyd that soothes my soul
The unlamented Phil Lynott
The twisted Punk that kept me in it
The Billie Holiday that took its toll
-------------------------------------------
My reason screams, " Why can I not!?"
Steal from the world the songs I've wrought
It seems a fine and simple thing
To want to sing
Of all the synchronicity my life has brought
--------------------------------------------
I am here to understand
And I am but a simple man
Who struggles to find the symphony
That life is, most unquestionably
The magic deep within
The music and me......

My Dear Brother Poet Tony,
I love your poem. My life revolves around music too. My parents always had music playing in our home, as we do in our house now. You mentioned Billie Holiday in your work. My father loved to listen to songs by Dinah Washington. We had a few of her albums, and if I remember correctly, my favorite tune, was her version of "I Remember You". I used to sing it in the bathtub. So sadly, she died at thirty-nine years old.
"I've got the music in me"
It reverberates in my Soul
It echoes in my chambers heart
It is the stuff that keeps me whole
.
Whether ancient chants of cultures pasat
Or a Puccini opera song
Rock and Roll, Bill Haley sings
Billie Holiday, lived not long
.
So many others in my very core
These sounds of symphony
They've made me what I am today
For, "I've Got The Music In Me"
