My Country
Independence Day

My country
I didn’t chose
But i was chosenÂ
To walk and live
In a land of green
To be faithful
Loyal and honest
To serve
With all my strengthÂ
And to defend its dignityÂ
To uphold
It’s honor and glory
With God’s help
My country
Blessed it is
And blessed it will
It’s period darken
Hunger, anger
Diseases,deaths
Wars,worries
Corruption,chaos
Is but for justice to reignÂ
The light of love to shine and reflectÂ
The voice of truth to resonateÂ
For passion to be reborn
And pride rejuvenatedÂ
My countryÂ
Proud and free.

This is something I often ponder on. None of us choose to be born, let alone in what country we are born into. And we become protective over the land of our birth and we cling to its ideals like a drowning man does a life raft. Different countries have different belief systems. So, ultimately, which ever country you were born in decides your faith. Obviously we can change our beliefs as we learn more, and many do, but usually if you were born of a faith then it stays pretty close to your heart for life. And it is this that really bothers me in my pondering. Who is to say which religion is the right one? Why did man even invent religion, if it was invented? And it all boils down to where you were born. Which we have no choice in. And so I believe that there is no right or wrong religion. They are all right. It is not the religion that is important, what is important is that we have faith in something, whether that faith be Pagan, or Jewish, or Christian, or Muslim, or Hindu, or Shinto, or even if it resides in science alone.
I know your poem was not about this... religion... It was about pride in your country. But your poem triggered these deep thoughts from me.Â
Well done on your poem x
Hello Being me, I’m glad you enjoyed this. My country is a serious combination of languages and religion but we have been together this long, so deep down, is not about that, but all about love. And God is Love. Warm regards.
Though I did not choose to be born in The Netherlands and am most certainly not proud of things that the Dutch have done in the past I still count myself lucky to be living here. I have my home here as all the people should have in their own country, free and peacefulÂ
Hi John, that sounds so so wonderful. I wish I could come visit and experience the joy. My country has a long way to go. Warm regards.Â
