MY DAD WAS A MINER

My dad did and his dad before him did too
I'm sure you're asking why did it stop at you
Simple answer there isn't a pit here anymore
Never will be again that's for certain and sure

My dad always worked through the night
Never in his working life did he see daylight
Twelve hour shifts and then a meal and bed
Making sure his kids were schooled and fed

My dad was a tough man a hard working miner
As a role model there was nobody finer
How sad then he died with blood on his lung
Taken too soon and was relatively young

My dad I wonder what you'd make of our earth
You've instilled hard work to me since my birth
A McDonald's stands where the pit used to be
Hardly a reminder to both my mother and me
