My Father Called Me Heartless

My father once called me heartless

Told me that I couldn't feel

That I don't feel happy, sad

Angry, confused

And all my emotions aren't real

He told me that I simply feel nothing

"I am a heartless"

The moment he of all people

Spoke those words to me

I was shaken and

Felt surrounded by darkness

The outside me smiled

Because the inside me

Didn't know what to do

The outside me laughed

Because the inside me

Never even had a clue

And the worst part was that I mistook

Those words to be true

A moment of weakness

For he was always a blunt man

Saying most everything he wanted to

But what if, I wondered he was telling the truth

After all my pen is dyed with an ink darker

Than black and if it isn't my words still

Pick up the slack but it was never my

Intention to cause such tension

Between fellow poets of life

When they say things like

"You depress me"

So I conceal what I feel

And write whats unreal because

That's what the people want

I juggle my problems

In a clown suit riding the

Unicycle of life

And they all come to the

Circus to watch me

Because to them I am much

More interesting to watch that way

I'm a circus-freak and my father

Calls me heartless

Nice to meet you
