My Father Hymie

My Father Hymie

Happy Fathers’ Day my dear Father, I’m sending all my love;

It’s been thirty-nine long years now, since you moved to up above!

Sixty-one years was all you were given, before you had to leave;

With my Sister, Me and my dear Mother, for you, to ever grieve!

You gave us everything we wanted, silver spoons in all our mouths;

Business took you to Greenville and Kentucky; you made a fortune in the South!

I remember several trips we took there, you so proud of your fine boy;

You’d tell all your close associates, that I brought you so much joy!

After high school and some college, I fell in love and we eloped;

Then you sent us on a honeymoon, much better than we could have hoped!

On our return, you brought me into your business, rolled out the red carpet for all to see;

You were the only person I ever had to work for, until I decided to work for me!

You stuck by me through my thick and thinness, for it took me years to find my way;

But every time I fell you helped me, and brightened up my day!

I finally turned my ship upright, and discovered my true niche;

So happy now, we bonded more closely; then you watched as I grew rich!

For eight years we shared this deep love, more than ever had before;

But the last two of them, your heart grew weaker, and needed to be restored!

On a cold Monday morn in January, you had your surgery;

We all thought it would be so simple, but success was not to be!

We lost you on that saddest day, the three of us in tears;

The “Rock of Our Gibraltar”, the sum of all our fears!

Now thirty-nine years later, on this, your special day;

My eternal love I’m sending, for in my heart, you’ve always stayed!
