My Intangible Possessions

No one can take them away from my eyes...

the birds and the dew drops

They are one

At dawn they've touched down upon the ground and vegetation,

by noon they're soaring as clouds--

mediating between fire and ice

We live in their shadows;

partaking of these conduits of divine mercy,

like the fruit of crushed leaven and grapes

We rise with their song

and lie restless with their roar

Forever free they fly away from our snatch

and seep through our cupped palms

Like God they remain untamed:

densely decorative yet transparently bare
