My little Blackird 💙
I stumbled upon a Blackbird with a broken wing
It was precariously perched on the ledge of my garden swing
Breeziness blew it back and forth as it’s minute claws did cling
And as I watched I thought ‘Oh my goodness you poor little thing’
~
Then I lightly lifted him down from the wooden seat
I placed his poor body amongst grass beside my two feet
He looked up at me greatfully singing ever so sweet
With a twitteringly chirping “Tweet..tweet..tweet”
~
So I hurried into my house and I crumbled up some bread
And gently tossed tiny morsels on the grassy earth bed
Well I was almost flabbergasted when he bowed his litte head
Blood began dripping from his wounded wing..making the green grass bright red
~
Of course I put him in a small shoe box and I drove him straight to the vets
And the nice man examined him infront of many other people’s pets
My tears welled up as I heard this clever man’s sighs and frets
But then the vet told me not to get upset and to have no regrets
~
Well the moral of my tall tale is indeed very true
This broken Blackbird alas didn’t pull through
And I still shed a tear or two..as I am sat writing this to you
But I tried my absolute utmost.. there was simply nothing more that I could do...
