My sad old tree

“Sshh” I am listening to the whispers thru the wuthering leaves
“Can you not hear it ?”
Such a sorrowful sighing I fear she grieves
Does she mourn for the lamentable loss of her lustre as she strengthens her branches with all she can muster
0h I see no suckered sprigs on your bended bough
“Has that wretched wind wrecked you somehow ?”
I can hear the tormented troubles of this tree as her suffering sighs speak to me
“I am so sorry my lanky limbed tree”
as I listen to this wailing especially for me
You have stood strong and steady for a century or more
Amidst the girth of your greatness on my earthy floor
“Please don’t give up the ghost my friend this winter’s wake will surely end”
Yet she cries her dripdrop tears of sticky sap from the wild weathered wintery coldsnap
