Poem -

My Second Father, Jack

My Second Father, Jack

When I married my wife in ninety-three, I got a “value pack”;

The love of my life, Linda, but also her father Jack!

Eight months before, I had met him, and right away, he and I both knew;

That I’d become the son he always wanted, and we’d love each other true!

To me, he was “a Godsend”, for it had been a sad fifteen years;

Since I had lost my dearest Father, and cried a million tears!

But I felt like Linda’s Father, was a surrogate for me;

And from that first day of our meeting, you were a Father, and Son to be!

Twelve years we shared our lives together, had so many unexpected joys;

I finally had a Dad again, and he finally had his boy!

I loved him very dearly; we both had very quick wit;

We’d tell jokes, when we were together, and give our Linda laughing fits!

The spring of two thousand four, he got ill, at the age of ninety-two;

The late love of his life, Rosie, got sick in the springtime too!

At the early age of fifty, in nineteen sixty-seven;

She contracted pancreatic cancer, and too quickly went to Heaven!

Then thirty-seven years later; on ”exactly” the same date;

Jack decided to go up to Heaven, and return to his “soulmate”!

The last words he ever uttered; were “How proud he was of me”;

Happy Father’s Day, my dear Jack Gordon, our love was meant to be!

Hi sparrowsong,

I was so fortunate for twelve years to have a second Father.  It was an unbelievable bond, that happened quite out of the blue. Your comments are always such a pleasure to read.

Glad to hear about a guy who got along with his father-in-law.  He sounds like a great man.  But remember Larry, he was only 1/2 the equation.  You must not be to bad a guy yourself ; )

Hi Kimmy,

Yes, I was half the equation, but I felt honored to be "half the man that he was".  He taught me a lot about being a real man, and I loved him dearly as I know he loved me.  Thank you for your kind note.

 Peace and Love,

xox Larry
