Natures night...

Sounds in the night

30/07/2020
Natures night...

Sunsets silhouettes settling,
Before the moon gives off a duller light,
Unless there’s clouds,
Ahead covering,
Then there’ll be only darkness to lead you,
All through the night.
Needing torches to see,
Until the moon is back and right,
Like a chalkboard in the sky,
As there’s the black in the background,
With scribbles,
And dots of bright white.
I love just laying on our trampoline,
Stargazing,
At the skies dazzling sight.
The best time for this though,
Is when the bell rolls,
And tolls at midnight...
Ears perched,
Listening,
For the big dinosaur cranes,
As they squeeze in their containers,
So close,
So tight.
But that’s only the slightest of sounds,
Amongst the many sounds,
With less might.
Like a montjack calling for it’s young,
As it bolted from a fright,
Foxes dashing round,
Wanting it’s preys haunches,
So fresh and tasty,
 to the bite.
Then there’s the cats that prowl,
Fighting,
And screeching at every single swipe.
They are just a few of the sounds,
If you listen out for,
At night.

If you look hard enough,
You may just see,
Bats flying around,
From tree to tree.
Hunting for little rodents,
Or bugs as a treat.
There’s just something majestic,
In the sound their wings do make,
When there wings are flapping at an alarming rate.
But like rats,
They are still all vermin,
Make no mistake.
But I can’t help but have admiration,
For flying blind,
With only a sound sonar,
Telling them when to halt their brakes,
Even when it’s time to dive down,
To it's dinner,
 laying in wake...
when the wind bristles,
All my surrounding trees leaves,
Through them wind whistles,
When it picks up a cooling,
Summers night  breeze.
I wouldn’t be laying out there in the winter,
As I fear I would freeze!
So it’s for summer,
For me to lay there at ease,
Trying to do it as much,
And as often I please.
Young notice things like these,
When you’re an insomniac,
Out here,
Like me.
Even the odd,
short alarms,
from across the small channel,
Of our sea,
From where the dinosaurs roam,
Within them,
Is where all the night time workers be.
I could live here for the rest of my days,
Content and happily.
Just my 3 boys and me!
